After 15 years, I'm finally gonna get Electricity!
Apr 17 2008, 8:39 PM EDT
I have been holding out a long time, Solar panels, propane hot water heaters, solar lights flash lights, candles, kerosene heaters, (cough) wood stoves, (cough cough) I have been through the entire evolution of living off the grid, I have a wind generator, (doesnt quite get it done) I found solar to work pretty well for charging the Batteries (12V) and running the lights and computer, I have a generator for running window ac unit for the Girlfriend when it gets near 100 degrees in the summer, (I used to just sweat, I dont mind it, much So, now Im getting the power run in underground, its gonna cost round $2000 out of my pocket to get this done but its a huge benefit to keep overhead wires from messing up my view, and lightning and storms knocking the lines down from fallen trees.. More to come soon!

Well, heres my newest input, the picture of the power going in is posted in the "Photo Gallery"and it ended up to be about 25% more than I planned but thats pretty much what I have been told to expect, aw hell, I still got a job, so, its worth paying more to my little dream than I expected. Well, the power is run. New I have to dig the FOOTERS and get them inspected then pour then another inspection, THEN start building the walls. They will be pretty straightforward, but I have to plumb the basement BEFORE th slab is poured, I am thinking about "Earth tubes" for natural Heating and Cooling but am afraid that may be stressing my cash too much, PLEASE send suggestions, (or Cash) because I figure heating and cooling costs are going to be a bill I want to keep lower in my old age, (retirerement) so I have to also start to worry about what insulation I will be using to pass the R-38 roof insulation requirements in the A-Frame, the Sips Ive priced are EXPEN$IVE and then I still am going to put a steel roof (50 maint-free years) over that. Appealing to any ASU Eco-volunteer brainiacs??? Do you find this valuable? |
